The line from Furano to where it joins the Sekishô-sen in the tunnel above Shintoku was severely damaged in a violent storm on 31 August 2016. The section from Furano as far as Higashi Shikagoe was reopened on 17 October 2016, and a regular bus service between Higashi Shikagoe and Shintoku started on 28 March 2017. The whole line between Furano and the Sekishô-sen signal post in the tunnel above Shintoku (Kami Ochiai Shingôjô) closed to all traffic on 30 March 2023.
