With the opening of the Tôhoku Shinkansen between Morioka and Hachinohe (December 1, 2002) the section of the Tôhoku Honsen within Iwate Prefecture passed into the hands of the Iwate Ginga Tetsudô between Morioka and Metoki, the first stop in Aomori Prefecture.
