Ginza-sen

1435 mm gauge, third rail current collection (direct current 600 V). Tôkyô’s oldest underground line runs from Shibuya in the west of Tôkyô to Asakusa, the “heart” of old Tôykô beside the Sumidagawa River in the east. Length: 14, 3 km. The Ginza-sen was completed from Asakusa as far as Ueno in 1927. Construction progressed through Tôkyô, arriving at Ginza in 1934 and, finally, at Shibuya in 1938. Ginza with its internationally renowned department stores (the first one having opened in 1924) and fashionable shops and restaurants has been a centre of luxury and amusement in East Asia ever since the late 19th century.

The Ginza-sen is not joined to any other railway line.
