Tôkyô To’ei Chikatetsu – Shinjuku-sen 新宿線
Shinjuku-sen 新宿線
1372 mm gauge, overhead current collection (direct current 1500 V). Shinjuku-sen trains basically start at Sasazuka in the west of Tôkyô on the Keiô Company’s line, from where they do not go to the Keiô Company’s end stop at Shinjuku but take the Keiô Company’s underground line which begins at Sasazuka. Thus they reach Shinjuku station on an underground level. Here the Shinjuku-sen proper is reached. On the eastern side Shinjuku-sen trains cross the wide Arakawa River and operate to Moto Yawata in Chiba Prefecture. Length: 23, 5 km. The line was opened 1978 – 1989.
The stations are (A Sasazuka笹塚 – B Hatagaya幡ヶ谷 – C Hatsudai初台 -) 1 Shinjuku新宿(low level, Keiô Shinsen Shinjuku-eki / Keiô New Line Shinjuku Station) – 2 Shinjuku Sanchôme新宿三丁目 – 3 Akebonobashi曙橋 – 4 Ichigaya市ヶ谷 – 5 Kudanshita九段下 – 6 Jinbôchô神保町 – 7 Ogawamachi小川町 – 8 Iwamotochô岩本町 – 9 Bakuro Yokoyama馬喰横山 – 10 Hamachô浜町 – 11 Morishita森下 – 12 Kikukawa菊川 – 13 Sumiyoshi住吉 – 14 Nishi Ôjima西大島 – 15 Ôjima大島 – 16 Higashi Ôjima東大島 – 17 Funabori船堀 – 18 Ichinoe一之江 – 19 Mizue瑞江 – 20 Shinozaki篠崎 – 21 Moto Yawata 本八幡.
The Shinjuku-sen is joined to the Keiô Company’s 1372 mm gauge network in the west of Tôkyô; as mentioned, the underground section from 1 Shinjuku to Sasazuka is in fact already part of the Keiô line. Shinjuku-sen trains continue over the Keiô line to Chôfu and then branch off to the Tama Center and Hashimoto. There are also services to Keiô Hachiôji. Conversely, a considerable number of Keiô Company trains work onto the Shinjuku-sen all the way to 21 Moto Yawata.
