Tôzai-sen
1067 mm gauge, overhead current collection (direct current 1500 V). The Tôzai-sen (the “East-West Line”) runs from Nakano, a station on JR East’s Chûô-sen, to Nishi Funabashi in Chiba-ken (Chiba Prefecture). hereby crossing the three great rivers Sumidagawa, Arakawa and Edogawa. Length: 30, 8 km. The line was opened 1964 – 1969.

During rush hours some trains continue from 23 Nishi Funabashi over the JR Sôbu-sen to Tsudanuma 津田沼 (See Sôbu Honsen).
At the western end of the line every second or third train continues from 1 Nakano over the JR Chûô-sen to Mitaka (See Chûô-Sôbu-sen via Tôkyô Metro). Conversely, some JR trains (class 231-800) travel via the Tôzai-sen to 23 Nishi Funabashi. On the eastern side the Tôzai-sen is linked to the Tôyô Kôsoku Tetsudô (Tôyô Rapid Railway, Tôyô 東葉 meaning “East Chiba”) to Tôyô Katsutadai. While Tôzai-sen trains work through to Tôyô Katsutadai, Tôyô Kôsoku Tetsudô trains run via the Tôzai-sen as far as 1 Nakano.

This line was conceived as a prolongation of the Tôzai-sen underground line, also to ease the rush onto the Keisei Company’s trains in the area of Funabashi. 37 % of the line is underground. Many trains are linked to the Tôzai-sen and run between Tôyô Katsutadai (on the Keisei railway) and 1 Nakano via the Tôzai-sen. Both Tôzai-sen trains and Tôyô Kôsoku Tetsudô trains are used.
Length: 16, 2 km. The line was opened in 1996.
