Tôkyô Metro – Namboku-sen  南北線

Namboku-sen 

1067 mm gauge, overhead current collection (direct current 1500 V). This line runs, as its name “South – North Line” tells, from the south to the north of Tôkyô. In the north it continues from 19 Akabane Iwabuchi as the Saitama Kôsoku Tetsudô (Saitama Rapid Railway) into Saitama Prefecture. The Namboku-sen proper begins at 1 Meguro and runs as far as 19 Akabane Iwabuchi. Length: 21, 3 km. The line was opened 1991 – 2000.

The stations are: 1 Meguro 目黒 – 2 Shirokanedai 白金台 – 3 Shirokane Takanawa 白金高輪 – 4 Azabu Jûban 麻布十番 – 5 Roppongi Itchôme 六本木一丁目 – 6 Tame’ike Sannô 溜池山王 – 7 Nagatachô 永田町 – 8 Yotsuya 四ッ谷 – 9 Ichigaya 市ヶ谷 – 10 Iidabashi 飯田橋 – 11 Kôrakuen 後楽園 – 12 Tôdai-mae 東大前 – 13 Hon Komagome 本駒込 – 14 Komagome 駒込 – 15 Nishigahara 西ヶ原 – 16 Ôji 王子 – 17 Ôji Kamiya 王子神谷 – 18 Shimo 志茂 –19  Akabane Iwabuchi 赤羽岩淵.

Between 1 Meguro and 3 Shirokane Takanawa the Namboku-sen shares its line with the To’ei Mita-sen, the latter officially ending at Shirokane Takanawa.

In the north, the Namboku-sen continues from 19 Akabane Iwabuchi as the Saitama Kôsoku Tetsudô to Urawa Misono, with all trains (both Namboku-sen trains as well as other company’s trains) running through to Urawa Misono. In the southwest, after joining the Mita-sen at 3 Shirokane Takanawa, the Namboku-sen is linked to the Tôkyû Company’s Meguro-sen at 1 Meguro. Running on ist own double track, the Tôkyû Meguro-sen continues as far as Hiyoshi. From here Namboku-sen trains will continue to Shin Yokohama, with some services going on to the Sôtetsu Company’s line to Nishiya, Ebina and also Shônandai. Conversely, Tôkyû trains as well as Sôtetsu trains operate on the Namboku-sen.

Saitama Kôsoku Tetsudô (Saitama Rapid Railway)

The continuation of the Namboku-sen from Akabane Iwabuchi into Saitama Prefecture as an underground railway is provided by the Saitama Kôsoku Tetsudô (1067 mm gauge, overhead current collection, direct current 1500 V). All trains form part of the Namboku-sen. The line was built in 2001 and provides access to the Saitama Football Stadium at Urawa Misono, completed in 2002. The length of the line is 14, 6 km.
